Pocket Wifi in the Philippines

Pocket Wifi is becoming a need in the Philippines due to the influx of tablets and game consoles without SIM, dongle and ethernet slots. These tablets and game consoles are mostly wifi-ready. Without wifi signal, there's no way these gadgets can connect to the internet. In the Philippines, free wifi are mostly found in large malls, public buildings and institutions; but most government wifi's allow visits on some important or relevant sites only. Wifi spots also include bars, refreshment stations, restaurants, hotels, inns, etc. but they usually have passwords/keys that customers or clients may ask from the employees. Pocket Wifi have maximized and optimized the usage of the said gadgets by enabling the latter to connect to the world via internet in any location as long as the wifi's network provider has a signal.

Pocket Wifi with up to 7.2 Mbps can connect to internet up to 5 wifi devices such as cellphones, tablets, smartphones, game consoles and other computer gadgets. Pocket Wifi devices could reach a wireless range of up to 15 metres (hotspot) regardless of who created them. It only suggests that users of Pocket Wifi can get a bit closer to each other while using it, thus It can be used purposely as a wifi for a family or small office with up to 5 wifi users.

Huawei pocket wifi in the Philippines

Anyone who would like to avail Pocket Wifi must see to it that the network provider of the device has a strong signal of 2g or 3g in his/her area or location for the optimized and maximized usage of the Pocket Wifi potential.

Pocket Wifi, however, must be used or handled with care and safety measures. Users must read carefully the product's safety and maintenance info that is included in the package. those who have availed a second hand item without the safety and maintenance information should know that Pocket Wifi devices were designed to be used at a 1.5 cm away from the human body to prevent tissue from RF (Radio Frequency) radiation exposure. It is called pocket wifi, but while using it, it is not advisable to put it in your pocket if it's distance would be less than 1.5 cm from the skin. It should not also be used in areas where it is prohibited as it may cause accident or interfere with sensitive equipments. It may increase the risk of fire or explosion in areas with highly flammable or explosive materials; may be damaged, explode, cause fire or electric shock when exposed to heat, sunlight, moist, water or extreme cold. The antenna should not also be blocked for quality signal transmission and reception, should not be overheated and use only the compatible devices when charging or using to prevent accident. Always keep it away from children and magnetic stripe cards such as credit and debit cards to avoid damaging of the magnetic stripes. And do not clean it with liquid, clean it only with dry and clean materials.

How to activate internet connection of unconfigured cell phone in the Philippines

Philippines uses different SIM cards that are being provided by Globe, Smart and Sun to connect cell phones to their services. Their internet services and GPRS can be automatically configured and available in many cell phones using their SIM cards, however, many different kinds of cell phones (they usually use unknown OS) that have invaded the market can not be recognized by these cell phone networks, thus they can't be automatically configured to access internet and GPRS. They must be configured manually in order to access the said services.
Below are the suggested steps to enable internet/GPRS connection using these cell phones:

1. Go to the 'Settings' of your cell phone and click 'Connections'.

2. Check 'GPRS' to enable it, and in the network connection account setting, enter the following data (if the network account list is full, you may edit one of them and activate it):

(Note: the APN remains the most important data to be present and entered correctly in the configuration)

Night sky smolder

Sometime in June 2012, I was on my way for a night shift duty. It was past 6:00 pm, and the surroundings were already dark, there were noticeable small number of stars in the sky, but as I approached my post, I’ve seen an unusual large red-orange light in the northern sky. It was unusual but I still thought it was just a plane; as I looked at it again, it was not moving nor blinking, so when I’ve met my buddy near our post I’ve showed him the unusual light in the sky, we stared at it for few more seconds before it disappeared as if covered by a hazy cloud. When it disappeared, my buddy mumbled few words and left for home.

The light was as large as the planet Venus, but Venus during that time was positioned at the western sky near the crescent moon. Jupiter was even smaller being seen up the moon. The red-orange light was not as bright as the other stars but it was round and flickering like a flame and one may get the feeling that it was just like a bonfire in the sky. The flickering of the said light has given me a feeling that there was/were some people or anything moving near the said sky bonfire.

The 5th hospitalization

It was in July of 2012 when I went to the hospital because of the symptoms that usually triggered by boozing on liquor and it hangover effect, lack of sleep, hunger, cold weather, cholesterol, and/or strong caffeinated coffee and other stimulant substances. These symptoms include hard breathing, short breathing, anxiety, stress, restlessness, and/or numbness on the chest and sometimes on the face and head. Among the triggering factors, the worst were liquor boozing and hangover, and stimulants. Drinking into severe intoxication would result to either blackout or hard breathing while hangover may give hard and short breathing with chest or facial numbness. Stimulants would trigger irregular palpitations and numbness. The cold weather gives short breathing and restlessness but it may be settled down by putting on thick clothes and drinking hot water. Intake of foods high in cholesterol would result in restlessness and hard breathing that may calmed down by drinking water and continuous moving or walking. The experienced anxiety and irregular breathing, upon their onset, may also be settled down by keep on talking with someone else, shifting attention to anything else, and/or by engaging in physical activity. Some other factors and the said worst factors may bring this recuperating Yours Truly to the hospital again for treatment.
Alcohol abuse patient

This was my fifth time to be hospitalized for this ailment. Actually, I was hospitalized in one day and one night only as I decided to become out-patient so that I can exercise outside. During the hospitalization night, I dreamed of two old ladies came into the ward and proceeded to my bed. The one holding a stethoscope put the device on my chest and laughed hard while the other one with strict eyes and strict thin lips sat on my bed and said, “Don’t do it again”. She probably meant by this that I must stop drinking too much liquor. I don’t know exactly what this dream meant to me, but I think I was already warned by my own subconscious agents and was instructed to care of myself and health from now on. The doctor, after giving this recuperator the corresponding symptoms treatment decided to recommend a psychiatrist after claiming that I would still be the one who can cure my own ailment. I was put under a psychiatrist program before, but it had seemed that the vitamin B and the diazepam were the ones that have worked better and not the program sessions.

Now, I am not drinking much (a bottle of beer every 2 days only) and I’m hoping that things will get better. I’m also maintaining vitamin B1 B6 B12 intake, food diet, and considering physical exercises outside during good weather. I know and I feel that my health needs to be restored or revitalized and am confident that this ailment will soon be healed if I do my part in the healing process. So, God, help me recuperate.

Some liquor stories

I have not been drinking alcohol for the past few months after I got out from the hospital sometime on the last week of October 2009. I was hospitalized because of something that the doctor called it as Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome. I went to that hospital by myself because of difficulty of breathing and tingling and numbness on my extremities and I only felt a small degree of relief when I do some physical exertions such as walking, climbing, etc. I don’t know if the difficulty of breathing was causing the numbness or the other way around. When I reached the hospital, I told the doctor that I was drunk the other night, slept at 2 AM, woke up at 6 AM and went to the hospital at 10 AM because of asphyxiation. At the emergency room, they inserted oxygen catheter inside my nose before I gave them the background info. On the ECG screen I could see my heartbeat faster than normal so the doctor examining the screen wanted me confined thus I called someone to assist me and to fill-up my admission form. The nurse interns would seem to be the more enthusiastic and very eager to learn from experiences, someone would insert a dextrose pin on the back of your palm and when it bled, she would reposition it and warn you to steady your hand if you don’t like a phlebitis. After they took a series of blood samples, they would sometimes stab you with a syringe on the right arm, then to the x-ray room before finally bringing you to your sanity room.

When I woke up, it was my first night of five. My room is a quarantine room, sucks…through those past few hours I did not exhibit any alcohol withdrawal or wild swing but…well, I liked the privacy of the room. The doctor must have known that in his psychology lessons. The oxygen and the dextrose, already red with vitamin B complex, were still attached to my body. They’re giving me the fresh breath of life and nourishment. I felt I was in a fresh and abundant botanical garden.

On the table were ampules, capsules and tablets of sedatives, pain relievers (I complained about my back pain that I suspected as vasoconstriction or muscle pain), lopressors, vitamin B complex, antibiotics, paracetamol and receipts. The duty nurse would come in from time to time to administer the drugs, gather statistics, and leave. The doctor and visitors would come and go but there was a group from the Psychiatry Department, once, came in and introduced their ‘substance’ program for the rehabilitation of my alcoholism, they bombarded me with questions, and before they left they asked me to join their sessions should I was released from the Medicine Section despite my effort to imply that I was not an alcohol addict. I am not an alcohol addict. It’s just only that maybe one should not aggravate other illness by drinking too much liquor.

One of my friends has another story about his drinking habit that led him to the psychiatrist. He told me that during the celebrations of the recently concluded Christmas and New Year Holidays, he has been drinking too much liquor continuously with only an average of 4 hours of sleep a day. I knew him as physically strong person with will power and can challenge his strength by performing hard and strenuous works. But, after few weeks of heavy drinking with lack of sleep, he finally gave in and started hallucinating voices and people, imagining things that he thought were really happening. The wild swings would occur most especially when he’s alone in his bed, drunk or not. When he’s out with friends, he was normal and could recount his past hallucinations. He thought he has already gone crazy, but friends accompanied him to the hospital where he found out that he had psychosis. The doctor gave him medicines for the hallucination, sleeping pills and vitamin B1, B6 and B12 tablets, and asked him to return as an out-patient for rehab. My friend told me that there was nothing to rehabilitate since he’s not alcoholic and his psychosis would be treated by just decreasing the frequency of drinking and by having a good sleep, thus he just took a couple of doses of haloperidol, quetalpine and vitamins accordingly and never returned to his psychiatrist. Now, he seemed alright. He is drinking liquor again but on occasional basis only.

Another friend, an older one, is now bed ridden at his house. I didn’t see him for three weeks when I learned that he had a mild stroke and had been confined at his house for two weeks now. We visited him, he couldn’t move his right leg and he cannot use his crutch because of the pain that being caused by the weight of his body, he needed someone to lift him. He could talk straight and speak his most sane and reasonable thought ever but he always asked his visitors to give him cigarettes, what I brought him were biscuits. He has been a habitual drinker, has a habit of drinking to intoxication and missing some meals when already drunk. One occasion when a neighbor held a party, he was there drinking with friends when suddenly an uneasiness feeling took over him, so he immediately went out and gone for home but while at the half of his way his leg trembled and he got down, then there were two old women who found him in agony and have brought him home. He complained that his leg don’t feel anything but coldness. A friend advised him to make some movements to exercise his body regularly, and to ask for medication help when his relatives come to visit him.

On community public service

Public service for a community is a great task by great people. It is essentially important in a community as it involves policy making as well as working for the improvement of the different aspects of the community. Without it, the community does not have a definite direction for betterment. As the communal virtues and norms changes through times because of natural causes and assimilation, community service has a very important function to ensure that problems caused by these “changes” would not afflict even the small extent of the community. In doing so; policies, ordinances, memorandums must be effected to work on the roots and fruits of problems and positive developments.

There are two approaches in treating a problem of a community. First is the strict and direct liquidation, and the second is the non-support that would slowly send or guide the problem to disappearance. Each can be applied appropriately depending on the kind of the problem, current situation and the community servant/s implementing it.

The other beneficial work of public service for a community is the comprehensive community development to be carried on through infrastructure projects, human resource development, socio-economic enhancement, encouragement of function groups’ participation, etc.

The tasks of the community servants are very subtle and significant in the development of the populace as well as the whole community. The degree of development of a certain place can not solely be determined by its own appearance and history but can be judged through the reactions or appreciations of the residents, which can be accounted usually to community service. However, community service is very delicate and can easily be harmed. Most often the community servants themselves take advantage of their privileges and power to advance their personal and selfish interests which results to community problems and stagnation.
